Dubito was born during a night with friends. The idea: a game mixing bluff and trivia, explainable in 30 seconds, bilingual French/English from day one.
Why this game?
Dubito starts from a simple idea: the best answer isn’t always the true one, it’s the one you manage to pass off as true. Each round, your team gets a fill-in-the-blank statement and invents two believable fake answers. The other team sees three options, one real and two bluffs, then spreads its tokens on the one it thinks is correct. Bet well and you keep your tokens; bet wrong and you lose them. First team to run out loses.
What I wanted was to combine two things that rarely go together: general knowledge and deliberate lying. A good bluff means knowing the real answer well enough to build a fake one close enough to fool. And since you play in teams, every round runs through a quiet negotiation: which fake will land, which option to back with your tokens.
Under the hood it’s a strict state machine (bluff, bet, resolution, game over) synced in real time across two devices, with configurable timers and all the edge-case handling you never notice while playing but that keeps it from breaking: empty answers, duplicates, a player leaving mid-game, a perfect tie. Question packs are served from Supabase, which lets me add new decks without shipping an app update.
Tech stack
React Native, Expo and EAS Build for the mobile app. Supabase (PostgreSQL) for question packs and in-app purchases. Vercel for the web version.
